Resume Bullet Checker

Paste your bullet points, one per line, and see which ones open weakly, lack a number, run long, or lean on filler. The check runs in your browser; the text you paste is not uploaded: it stays in this browser tab until you close the tab or choose to forget it.

One bullet per line. 0 / 20,000 characters

Your text stays in this browser tab so that a reload does not lose it. It is not sent anywhere, and it is removed when you close the tab or choose to forget it.

Paste your bullet points and choose Check bullets. Results appear here.

What is checked

  • Whether the bullet opens with an action verb from a fixed list, or with a weak opener such as “Responsible for”, “Helped” or “Worked on”.
  • Whether it contains a measurable result: a percentage, an amount of money, a count, a time span, or a multiplier.
  • Length: fewer than 6 words is flagged as thin, more than 35 as too long.
  • First-person pronouns, passive voice, and common buzzwords.
  • Across the set: a mix of past and present tense openers, and the same opening verb used 3 or more times.

What it cannot tell you

  • It matches word lists and patterns. It does not understand meaning, so it will miss some problems and flag some bullets that are fine.
  • The word lists are English. Text in other languages is accepted, but most checks will not apply to it.
  • The score is a tally of these checks. It is not the score of any applicant tracking system and does not predict how an employer will rank you.
  • Only add a number if it is true and you can explain it in an interview.

Questions and answers

What does the score mean?

Each bullet starts at 100 and loses points for every check it does not pass, such as a weak opener or no number. The overall figure is the average. It is a tally of writing checks, not a prediction of how anyone will read your resume.

How should I paste my bullets?

One bullet per line. Bullet symbols and numbering at the start of a line are ignored. Up to 50 bullets are checked at a time.

What if a bullet has no number to give?

Then leave it without one. The check only notices whether a number is present. Add a figure only if it is true and you could explain it in an interview.

How long should a bullet be?

The tool flags bullets under 6 words as thin and over 35 words as long. Those limits are this tool's own rule of thumb, not a standard.

Why was a bullet that reads fine flagged?

The checks match fixed word lists and patterns and do not understand meaning. They will flag some bullets that are fine and miss some problems, so treat each note as a suggestion to consider.

Is the text I paste sent anywhere?

No. The check runs in your browser and the text is not uploaded. Everything you paste, including a job description, is kept in this browser tab's session storage so that a reload does not lose it, and it is removed when you close the tab or choose to forget it.

Do I need an account, and does it cost anything?

No account is needed and the tool is free to use.
